While in high school, sophomore Monica Kendall used to play quidditch. Non-magic, muggle quidditch, of course. And on Oct. 30, Muggle Quidditch, University of Portland League, had its first game.

"Mount your brooms, everyone!"

Although the game that saw its genesis in the "Harry Potter" series is not an officially recognized sport at UP yet, Kendall hopes to get enough student support to do so.

According to investigators, the cyclist Kipp Daniel Crawford, 31, was already in the roadway near North Willamette Boulevard and North Haven Street when he was struck by two vehicles shortly after 2 a.

After winning their first exhibition match last Sunday, the Oregon State men's basketball team will host the Western Oregon Wolves Friday at 1 p.m. at Gill Coliseum.

The Western Oregon Wolves, led by head coach Craig Stanger, finished last season with an overall record of 10-17 and 4-12 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
