Green fee proposal fails to get vote

Fees committee says proposal is outside of guidelines, supporters hope to take the issue directly to students through initiative process
A proposal to increase a student fee to convert OSU to 100 percent renewable energy hit a road block in the student/incidental fees committee on Friday, and now supporters hope to take the issue directly to student voters in April. The fees committee came to a decision during Friday's hearing not to vote on the Green Fee proposal, which rather than create a new fee would have increased a currently operating sustainability fee.

The lecture hall in Weniger was full Monday night when David Kaiser, an associate professor and lecturer from MIT, gave a lecture titled "Evolution on the Grandest Scale: Cosmology and Flashpoints of Controversy". The lecture was the fourth in a series of six talks sponsored by the history department called "The Cultural Politics of Evolution.

Fundraiser set to honor students who died in crash

Money will go toward search and rescue teams and a scholarship
After the OSU community lost two students, Jeffrey Schmidt and Quinn Truong, in a car accident last fall, multiple efforts were created to raise money in honor of the victims. On Nov. 19, 2006, Schmidt and Truong's Jeep Wrangler crashed into the North Umpqua River while they were returning home from a trip to Diamond Lake.

Distinguished professor will retire in March

Marcus Borg, a best-selling author and lecturer, will speak in a debate tonight
Hundere Distinguished Philosophy Professor and best-selling author Marcus Borg will retire at the end of winter term. Borg is a professor of religion and culture who has been teaching for 41 years, 28 of those at OSU. He has also written several books on the subject of religion and is a renowned lecturer who has given talks across the country as well as internationally.
