Yea to the new "OS" logo for OSU athletics. We especially applaud athletic director Bob De Carolis, who in a bold show of support for the controversial change, had the "identity system" tattooed on his head. Nay to the "OS" naysayers. So what if it reminds people of things like "operating system" or "shouldn't we try to get a solid basketball program before worrying about a logo?" Hogwash! Now that we have a sweet new logo, all the best hoops recruits will be coming our way! Beaver Nation had better prepare to "interlock" its way to the Final Four, baby! Yea to university branding.

One of the many disturbing environmental trends of recent decades - though perhaps not one of the best known - is the increasingly drastic decline of honeybee populations in the United States and elsewhere. This is no trivial matter when one considers the bees' huge environmental impact - they're "essential for the pollination of over 90 fruit and vegetable crops worldwide," according to Congressional testimony this March by entomology professor Diana Cox-Foster.

Famous Native author speaks at OSU
Leslie Marmon Silko, an author of great renown, spoke at OSU as a part of the lecture series offered with one of the courses here at OSU, the Native American Philosophies course. This course is only offered every other year and brings Native Americans from all over the continent to our campus to share their music, books, poetry, song and film talents with both the class participants and the greater Corvallis community.
