Jamie Anderson: A voice in song

On tour promoting her seventh album, Listen, Anderson proved this at her Corvallis performance on Thursday. Playing two sets with an intermission, Anderson's show pushed two hours.
Anderson classifies herself as a contemporary folk artist with blues and pop intertwined. She tours only with her acoustic guitar, but is backed by a full band when at home in Durham, N.C.
A self-proclaimed feminist, Anderson is a singer, songwriter and comic.
"I sing about food, sex and momma," she said with a laugh. Those topics aren't necessarily all rolled into each song, she explained, but are all common themes.
Booked by OSU's Women's Center in celebration of Women's History Month, Anderson said she isn't specifically on tour because of the month, yet often is booked by universities because of it.
Although her current tour is only a five week jaunt along the west coast, Anderson is no stranger to touring -- she's been doing it since 1987. She began touring simply to make enough gas money to get her to a music festival and just kept going.
In fact, Anderson performed in concert in Corvallis last June with the Corvallis womens' choir, Jubilate.
Anderson considers music her full time job, as that she tours five months of the year. She does, however, teach songwriting at Duke University in her off-time and has written articles for "Acoustic Guitar."
Anderson is playing a house show in Roseburg tonight and is gradually making her way south to and through California.
