The Oregon State baseball team improved to 2-0 at the San Diego Tournament on Saturday, holding off host school San Diego, 3-2.

OSU (5-1 overall) took a 3-1 lead into the ninth inning against the Toreros.

San Diego, however, battled back against OSU pitcher Kevin Gunderson, getting within one run, before Nate Fogle came on to end the game.

Gunderson improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Fogle earned the save.

The Beavers play San Diego again today in the final game of the tourney.

Driving runs in for OSU today were outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Lissman and second baseman Chris Kunda.

On Saturday, Anton Maxwell took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as Oregon State completed a three-hit shutout of UC-Davis 8-0.

The win gave OSU head coach Pat Casey his 300th coaching win at Oregon State.

"We did a really good job taking care of the small things today," Casey said. "We played well defensively and had no errors."

OSU jumped on the scoreboard early with a three-run second inning behind a sacrifice fly by Tyler Graham, an RBI bunt single by Darwin Barney and an RBI walk from Mike Lissman.

"The three-run second inning really got us going," Casey said. "Overall, we played fundamentally sound today and I'm proud of our guys."

Graham went 4-4 on the day with three runs batted in and a double. Danny Anderson added three more hits and Lissman had two.

The Beavers then tacked on two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead behind the strong pitching performance of Maxwell.

A two-run double by Joey Ledesma in the sixth gave OSU a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning, and Graham earned his third RBI of the day with a single in the top of the eighth.

Maxwell's no-hitter was broken up by UC-Davis right fielder Kyle Irving with a single to open the top of the eighth.

Solid relief pitching from Jake McCormick and Kurt Steele held off the Aggies late in the game and preserved the shutout.

"This was a really good performance out of Maxwell, taking a no hitter into the eighth," added Casey. "Anderson had three hits, Ellsbury was swinging the bat well, and Graham had a solid game with a couple of big hits.

"This was a great win for us."
