Oregon State junior outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has been named among 13 semifinalists for the 2005 Brooks Wallace College Player of the Year Award, it was announced Sunday evening by the College Baseball Foundation.

Sophomore pitcher Dallas Buck is also a semifinalist for the Roger Clemens award,

The Wallace Award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate baseball player and will be nationally televised on Fox Sports Network, and its' award-winning family of regional affiliate networks, as well as Fox College Sports.

Ellsbury has helped OSU to at least a share of the Pacific-10 championship this spring.

He is batting .415 with six home runs, two triples, 17 doubles, 42 runs batted in and 21 stolen bases this season. He has set OSU's records for hits in a season and runs in a career this season.

The CBF National Selection Committee will narrow the list to three finalists following the NCAA Super Regionals, with an announcement in Omaha on Thursday, June 16.

The annual award banquet will be held on June 30 at Texas Tech.

Dedicated to the memory of the former Texas Tech player and assistant coach, Wallace was a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977-80.

The selection committee for the Wallace Award is comprised of a select national panel of coaches, sports information directors, former winners and beat media (print, radio and television) who most closely follow the sport on a daily basis.

The Wallace Award is the only major collegiate honor of its type that tracks the nominees through the entire season, from first pitch through the completion of the NCAA College World Series. Final balloting will conclude June 28.

That's not the only national award Ellsbury is up for.

On Thursday, Ellsbury was named one 16 semifinalists for the Xanthus-Dick Howser Trophy, given to the top player in collegiate baseball.

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, working in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, awards the trophy each season. The 2005 winner will announced at the College World Series in Omaha on June 17.

The Dick Howser Trophy, given in memory of the former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987, is regarded by many as college baseball's most prestigious award.

Criteria for consideration for the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage, qualities that were exemplified by Dick Howser's life.

Buck is among the list of 10 hurlers who were named semifinalists Friday for the second Roger Clemens Award.

The winner of the second Roger Clemens Award will be announced on Thursday, July 14 at the Marriott Westchase Hotel in Houston.

Buck (11-1 record, 1.93 earned run average) was named by Baseball America as its top college pitcher in its mid-season report card.

Created in 2004, The Roger Clemens Award honors the top pitcher in college baseball.

The Roger Clemens Award was named after future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens, who began his career while leading the University of Texas to the College World Series title in 1983. The Roger Clemens Award is the only award of its kind, honoring the finest pitchers in college baseball.
