Ryan Johnson, who played soccer at Oregon State from 2002-05, made his Major League Soccer debut this past weekend. He has also been called up by the Jamaican National Team for an upcoming game against the U.S.
Johnson was taken in the third round by Real Salt Lake in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. In Real Salt Lake's season-opening 3-0 loss to Chivas USA on Sunday, Johnson came into the game as a reserve in the 73rd minute.
It was then announced on Tuesday that Johnson, who has dual citizenship with Jamaica and the U.S., had been called up to the Jamaican National Team. He could make his debut on April 11, when Jamaica plays the U.S. in Cary, N.C., in a game that will be televised by ESPN2.
Johnson is a four-time All-Pac-10 selection, having made the first team in 2004 and 2005. He was named to the NSCAA All-Far West Region second team in 2005. He led the Beavers in almost every offensive category this season with six goals, nine assists, 21 points and 47 shots. He led the Pac-10 in assists and was named the conference's Player of the Week twice in 2005.
He ended his career as OSU's all-time assist leader with 30 and finished third in points (66) and tied for seventh in goals (18).
