Recently, five new members have been added to the Board of Trustees of the OSU Foundation. The foundation, a non-profit organization, was set up in 1947 to raise money for the university. Funds are sent directly to OSU's education, research and outreach programs.
In addition, the foundation also helps gather funds for many of the university's scholarship programs.
More than $1,000 in scholarship funds have been created through the foundation by private donors.
The Board of Trustees oversees the OSU Foundation in effort to make sure that it follows the established bylaws and serves to setup and carry out major fundraising campaigns.
The board is made up of 63 trustees, all volunteers who work closely with the university's leadership to raise money based on needs.
The five new members include Carl Casale, executive vice president for North America and Latin America North; Pat Connolly, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of a specialty furniture company; Ruth Lipscomb, a former software engineer from Microsoft; Bond Starker, chairman of Starker Forests; and Judith Wicks Street, former owner of S&H Travel in Houston, Texas.
"They will be a tremendous asset to the foundation as we prepare to undertake OSU's first comprehensive campaign," said Mike Goodwin, president and CEO of the OSU foundation.
The five were elected by the full Board of Trustees out of a group of potential members and will serve a three year term on the board. All five are alumni of OSU whose educational backgrounds range from mechanical engineering to home economics.
A major task that this year's board looks forward to tackling will be the university's first comprehensive campaign. This campaign's goal is to raise money for the entirety of OSU rather than just its individual parts, and it will be the first time in university's history that this goal has been set.
In addition to this, the board is also attempting to raise $10 million for the renovation of Apperson Hall. It has already raised $8.5 million toward this goal.
