or the second straight weekend, the Oregon State men's soccer team lost 2-0 to Stanford, as the visiting Beavers were topped in Pacific-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Maloney Field.

There were few scoring opportunities in the game, as Oregon State (5-9-1, 0-7) had just five shots, while Stanford (6-5-3, 4-1-1) had only six. The Beavers had a 5-3 edge on corner kicks but it proved to be of no advantage.

The game was scoreless at halftime, but Scott Bolkan put the Cardinal in front in the 60th minute when he headed in a pass from Galen Thompson. Evan Morgan made it 2-0 in the 75th minute as he scored on a long shot attempt from the left side.

It was the second straight defeat in two days for the Beavers, as they suffered a 1-0 loss to 14th-ranked California in Pac-10 play on Friday afternoon in Berkeley.

The team improved mightily over last week's performance, when the Beavers fell 5-0 to the Bears in Corvallis, but it was not enough as visiting OSU was shut out for the third straight game.

The Beavers looked like they might upset the Golden Bears (9-3-1, 4-1) for a while, as both teams remained scoreless until the 85th minute when Cal's Steve Purdy scored on a 30-yard free kick.

Cal had a 13-6 shots advantage and a 6-1 edge on corner kicks.

OSU comes home to host UCLA next Friday, Oct. 20 and San Diego State on Sunday, Oct. 22. The Beavers find themselves in the middle of a seven-game losing streak and hope to break it when the Bruins come to town.
