Crackdown at lake leads to MIPs
Crowd of students, including some from OSU, hit with MIPs at Diamond Lake
Issue date: 11/22/06 Section: News
Fourteen OSU students and their friends, while partying at Diamond Lake Resort over the weekend, received minor in possession of alcohol citations.
Between 65 and 70 young people who said they were OSU students or their friends, rented 17 cabins at the resort, police said.
"One of the big risks involved is javascript:autoSummary();kids that drink and get in an automobile and drive," Douglas County Deputy Dwes Hutson said.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office increased the patrols at the resort on Friday and Saturday.
Traditionally, only one officer patrols the resort.
Diamond Lake Resort General Manager Steve Koch said a group from OSU has been coming to the resort for more than 10 years. "There was a little more alcohol than normal this year," he said.
A group from UO also visits once a year. Koch said that he tries to schedule the groups at times when other guests won't be around.
Three MIPs were given on Friday night, and 11 were given on Saturday.
A broken window was the only reported damage.
The group, even though members have received citations, is not unwelcome at the Diamond Lake Resort in the future, Koch said.
