Student killed in head-on collision
Car accident and a suicide take lives of two engineering students
Issue date: 11/28/06 Section: News
Jedidiah N. Morse, a 31-year-old resident of Eugene and OSU student, was killed Nov. 22 in an accident on Peoria Road.
He was a senior in electrical and electronics engineering.
Morse was driving a 1989 Toyota pick-up, traveling southbound, when he crossed over the median and collided with a 2000 Honda Accord 4-door Sedan, according to police.
The Honda was driven by Nancy Wortman, a 56-year-old resident of Corvallis. Wortman works at OSU as director of pre-college programs. Wortman had her 16-year-old daughter in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Wortman and her daughter were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.
The Linn County Sheriff's office said Monday that the investigation into the crash is still open. Police said alcohol or drug use does not appear to be a factor in the crash, adding that everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt. Heavy rain was reported at the time of the crash.
A memorial service for Morse will be held on Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Open Bible Church - 1116 Centennial Blvd., Springfield.
Student dies by suicide
Jonathan Olson, a graduate student in electrical and computer engineering - who previously received his bachelor's degree from OSU in 2004 - was found dead on Nov. 21. His death was caused by suicide.
A service is planned for Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. at the All Saints Episcopal Church - 372 N.E. Lincoln St., Hillsboro. A reception will immediately follow in the Parish Hall.
