Two women were killed Sunday night on Interstate 5 near Albany when their 1993 Saturn was struck by vehicle driving in the wrong direction.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes shortly before 11 p.m.

Kjersten Oquist, 36, of Wood Village, Ore., and Angela Svendsen, 31, of Vancouver, Wash., were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Oregon State Police.

A third woman, Kelly Gronli, 28, from southeast Portland, who was also in the car, was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was released from Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

All three were wearing seat belts.

Police said Fivea Sharipoff, 26, who was driving the vehicle that was headed the wrong-way, was intoxicated. Sharipoff, who is from northeast Salem, was taken to Samaritan Albany General Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Upon release, she was taken into the custody of Oregon State Police and was charged by the Linn County Court on two counts of first degree manslaughter, one count of second degree assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Oregon State Police Troopers from the Albany Area Command Office are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Linn County District Attorney's Office.

The northbound lanes of I-5 were closed until 3 a.m. and traffic was diverted off at the Highway 34 interchange.

The three women traveling in the Saturn were members of the Eugene Symphony and were returning to their homes after a rehearsal for an upcoming program.
