Brittany Stewart played outstanding golf on the 6,004-yard, par-72 course. She shot a 1-over-par 73, a three-shot improvement from yesterday, to finish in the top 10 at sixth place. The sixth place finish is a ten-spot improvement from day one of the tournament. Accurate shooting and strong putting led to Stewart's excellent finish in her first collegiate event.
"She played really steady today," said coach Rise Lakowske. "Brittany made a lot of putts and just played really steady for us. For her first college event she played just phenomenal."
In other scores for OSU, besting her first day score by three shots with a 4-over-par 76 and moving up eight positions to a tie in 32nd was Jessi Gebhardt. Jill Ferrante shot a 5-over-par 77 to best her first day score by four shots. Ferrante finished in a tie for 55th.
"We passed some people and some people passed us as we finished in 10th," said Lakowske. "Overall as a team we played better than we did yesterday, but we just need to get home and work on a few things to get where we'd like to be."
Host team Fresno State came away with the team victory registering a tournament score of 20-over-par 596 (299-297). The individual championship went to Kay Hoey of Long Beach State, who finished 2-over-par (74-72) for the tournament.
The OSU women's golf team will next be in action Monday and Tuesday, March 5-6, for the San Jose State Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif.
