Nicolette O'Donnell, a junior in bio-chem/bio-physics and member of Kappa Delta, encouraged people passing through the MU quad to donate to the Mock Rock philanthropy on Monday.

On a sunny day with partial clouds in the sky and temperatures ranging from 60 to 65 degrees, six organizations took advantage of the nice weather to get their word out in the MU Quad.

Three organizations had booths up to help promote their philanthropy project - Delta Phi Omega Sorority Inc., Kappa Delta sorority and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Delta Phi Omega was working on their Literacy Through Unity Week, raising donations for Asha for Education, an organization that helps underprivileged children in India.

"You can donate anything," said Delta Phi Omega member Ashley Khamsouk. "But we're mainly asking for books."

Delta Phi Omega is hosting a benefit party Friday at the Old World Deli, from 9 p.m. to midnight - admission is $5. Delta Phi Omega President Rachel Chin said that if a student donates, their name would be put into a drawing.

Also making efforts to help educate children was Kappa Delta. They're currently working on their Mock Rock Project to raise money to help children learn more about abuse prevention. The money will go toward the Center Against Rape And Violence. The group goes to schools and educates children on what to do if their parents or other adults are hurting them.

"Basically teaching them what's right and wrong, and that there are outlets on what to do," said Kappa Delta co-chair Erin Groebe.

Groebe said, as a sorority, they want to reach out to the OSU and Corvallis community for help, and their goal is to raise $10,000.

Kappa Delta will be hosting a Lip Sync Competition Thursday night at the La Sells Stewart Center from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets will be $5 at the door or $4 if the ticket is purchased before the event in the MU Quad. They will be stationed in the quad through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Six members from Alpha Tau Omega are donating their heads, and their pride, for an auction to help benefit people with cancer.

"We're trying to get people familiar with our philanthropy project and get our name out there," said Alpha Tau Omega member Tyler Collins.
