With spring term approaching, management positions in student media are turning over and a new group of students will be taking over leadership of The Daily Barometer, KBVR-FM and KBVR-TV.

Lauren Dillard was chosen as the new editor in chief of The Daily Barometer, Jeremy Tricola will be the new radio station manager and Jeffery Peterson will be the new TV station manager. The three were interviewed and selected by the University Student Media Committee, which is made up of students and faculty.

Dillard has worked for the Barometer since her freshman year in 2005. She has served as both the news and campus editor.

She started at OSU as a biochemistry major, but her appreciation for journalism eventually won her over and she is now in liberal studies with an option in new media communications.

Her interest in journalism began in high school, but she had no time to pursue it. Upon arriving on campus in September 2005, like most college students, she was looking for some extra cash and decided to apply at the Barometer.

Dillard says she is ready for the new job. "If all hell breaks loose, we're a team, we can handle anything and everything together," Dillard said of the Barometer news staff.

Dan Traylor, the out-going editor in chief, will still be hanging around as a staff writer next term.

"It's a challenge for anyone to manage a staff and put a newspaper out five times a week ... it's difficult to be a full-time student and editor at the same time," he said.

Another student stepping up to a leadership role is Jeremy Tricola, a junior in communications. He has been selected to be the new station manager at KBVR-FM.

Leslie Davis, the outgoing station manager who is graduating this spring, had nothing but encouraging words regarding Tricola.

"Jeremy is one of the most enthusiastic employees I've seen at KBVR in a long time. He is very charismatic and has done nothing but impress me since he arrived," she said.

The KBVR-TV station has also recently recruited new leadership for the year. Jeffery Peterson has been selected to be the new station manager starting spring term.

Peterson's interest in media communications began in high school when he saw an opportunity to get involved with something he had a passion for at OSU, he signed up.

That was more than three years ago, and now Peterson will be transitioning to the leadership role of managing the station.

Jon Stromme, who has been station manager for the past year, has been involved with KBVR-TV since he was a freshman. Stromme got involved when he saw an advertisement on campus offering a position with OSU's TV station and took advantage of it. As a senior he has enjoyed his time spent with KBVR-TV.

"It's a lot of fun, you work with awesome people and everyone gets along well," Stromme said.

As a fourth-year undergraduate student who has spent two and half years as an assistant engineer and facility coordinator, Peterson says he understands what it's going to take for the station to be successful.

"Persistence and good communication is important" Peterson said.
