SAN JOSE, Calif. - For the second day in a row, Jessi Gebhardt led the Oregon State women's golf team. Gebhardt wound up with a 7th place finish at the Spartan Invitational, hosted by San Jose State. Oregon State as a team slipped from 8th place to finish 10th place with a final tournament score of 925 (315-299-311).
Gebhardt posted a third-round score of 74 (222; 77-71-74) to move up one place from yesterday to finish in 7th place at Almaden Country Club, a par-72, 6,121-yard course. "Jessi played really well again today," said coach Rise Lakowske. "She stayed consistent and struck the ball really well. She adjusted well to the tough pin placements today."
Jill Ferrante was the only other Beaver to shoot in the 70s with a 76, which improved her individually six overall positions from yesterday.
For the second week in a row, the short game plagued the scorecards for OSU. Lakowske explained that the team's confidence is suffering some around the greens, but the team is striking the ball considerably well from the tee-box to the green.
"Our short game is the main thing that is hurting right now, said Lakowske. "Our putting wasn't very good today or in the past couple weeks, really. There are some physical, technical and mental issues along with the putting that we are going to really work on in the coming two weeks to prepare ourselves for the Oregon invite."
Host team San Jose State took the team championship with a tournament score of 877 (291-290-296), 15 strokes better than the second place. UC Irvine's Selanee' Henderson took home the individual championship with a 210 (69-71-70).
The Beavers will be back in action March 26-27 at the Oregon Duck Invitational in Junction City.
