Earthquake Awareness month events
OSU pitches in with Corvallis and Benton County to keep citizens prepared for the worst

Benton County Emergencies Services, the Corvallis-Benton County Library and OSU have joined forced to promote earthquake awareness.
April is Earthquake Awareness Month. To raise the level of understanding and preparedness of the community for earthquakes, OSU, Corvallis and Benton County are sponsoring events and materials.
The next talk will be held on April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Corvallis-Benton County Library. James Roddey of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries will talk about the Pacific Ring of Fire.
April 19 at 7 p.m., Andrew Meigs, an associated professor of geosciences at OSU, will speak regarding the possibility of Indonesian-scale earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest.
OSU Doctoral Student Wiley C. Thompson will explain disaster relief during the October 2005 Kashmir earthquake in a talk hosted on April 15 at 7 p.m.
All of the talks will take place at the Corvallis-Benton County Library at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in April. The Library will also host a working seismograph station recording seismic activity around the world. Handouts will be available as well as posters to view all month long.
