ASOSU election campaigns started on Monday with promotional posters placed on campus. Greg Purdy, Nadine Honda, Trevor Palin and Brian Collins - their signs in the quad - are running for offices in ASOSU.

Walking through campus, students may soon become familiar with the campaign signs that come along with election month.

Monday, candidates running for president and vice president positions of the ASOSU publicly announced their candidacy. The Memorial Union Program Council is simultaneously having candidates run for the positions of president and vice president as of Monday.

"ASOSU's soul purpose is to represent the students," said current vice president Lindsey Johnson.

There are two tickets running for ASOSU president and vice president, as opposed to last year's elections in which four tickets were vying for office. Candidates for president and vice president run together on one ticket.

Greg Purdy, a sophomore studying mechanical engineering, and Nadine Honda are running for ASOSU president and vice president respectively.

Purdy decided to run after taking an ASOSU internship classes. He also wanted to become more involved on campus.

"Nadine and I have a ton of ideas, and we want to work for the students, to help them have a better experience at OSU," Purdy said.

Honda, a sophomore who is also a business major studying accounting, is running for vice president.

Trever Palin and Brian Collins make up the second ticket running. Palin is currently a junior studying political science, and Collins is a graduate student in public policies.

"ASOSU is a wonderful organization," Palin said. "All of the people in it do a lot of good work that positively affects students, but there is plenty more to accomplish."

MUPC also has two tickets running. Campaigning for president is Samantha Murillo, a junior studying exercise and sports science. A candidate for vice president is Caitlyn DeMars, an art major in interior design.

"Caitlyn and I are really passionate about what the MUPC does, and we want to raise student involvement," Murillo said.
