Sigma Phi Epsilon will roll out the red carpet tonight in honor of YouthAIDS.

In an annual tradition, the Red Carpet Film Festival will raise money for an organization that sponsors political advocacy and world-wide communication and awareness of AIDS in youth.

Last year, Joe Duerst entered a short just one week before the festival's deadline. He wasn't sure what he was getting into because it was the first time the event was put on. His entry won.

"I was impressed by the whole set up," Duerst said. "It was a lot bigger than I expected, especially for a student event."

This is the second annual festival put on by the fraternity. A total of 10 short films created by OSU students, about five minutes in length, will be presented at LaSells Stewart Center.

There will also be a performance by OSU's men's a cappella group Outspoken during the event's intermission.

Kid Espi and Hot in Pursuit are two local hip-hop artists who are performing after the votes are cast by the audience for the festival's best entry.

Apple Inc. is sponsoring the event by providing advertising materials and prizes.

"Our guys will be wearing red ties and black slacks," said Richie Rich, member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and one of the organizers for the event.

"The entryway will be filled with movie posters and balloons and spot lights will be out in front," Rich said.

Sigma Phi Epsilon is hoping to fill the LaSells auditorium and raise $30,000 for YouthAIDS.

Jon Moravec, a sophomore in business finance and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, has been selling tickets for the event in the quad this week.

"It's a great opportunity for people to support a great cause and have a good time," Moravec said.

The doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $4, available in the quad, or $5 at the door.
