SB 334 is the first bill of many regarding students' issues to hit the floor of either the House or Senate.
"This is one of many things that need to occur to take us to another level of funding for higher education," Olson said.
Olson, Driver and other OSU students - mainly involved in ASOSU - drove to Eugene Wednesday afternoon to testify to the Joint Ways and Means Committee regarding the discrepancies in the governor's proposed budget and the co-chairs' budget.
ASOSU and OSA are fighting to get the funding for the programs that students need.
"If (the governor's proposed budget) passed as is, we don't think we would be able to fund the Shared Responsibility Model," Sproule said.
Sproule recommends a large presence and sharing personal stories and testimony to the legislature. The field hearing held in Corvallis on Tuesday, and the Eugene field hearing on Wednesday were good opportunities to do that.
"The Shared Responsibility Model is a big step for students in terms of getting the funding they need for higher education," Driver said. "We are thrilled that the senate passed this bill unanimously. I am super excited about it."
The senate bill will now be passed to the House Education Committee.

The fundemental flaw with this is that Oregon State University does not set class schedules with working students in mind. As such, 4 years is nearly impossible, as is a coherent program in most cases. (Continued…)
