This Tuesday the final estimates of funds available for legislators to include in the 2007-09 budget were revealed.
The state of Oregon will have an additional $180.3 million to include in the general and lottery fund. Yesterday representatives from the Fix This First coalition, which include members of the Oregon Student Association, university and community college representatives, held a joint lobby day with state legislators.
"It went really well, we got all necessary facts of our current status," said Melissa Unger, OSA executive director. "This additional funding is a good first step, but it by no means solves all problems that [higher education] faces."
The OSA is currently working on securing Governor Kulongoski's recommended education budget of $1.2 billion.
"We do have a few concerns about how this additional funding will be spent," Unger said.
