Annette McFarland, a senior in English, French and international studies, and Azia Schumate, a sophomore in food science and technology, have been named the biggest Harry Potter fans on campus. They entered a competition held in May for the Diversions section and here's what they have to say about it.

---

Why are you the biggest Harry Potter fans?

Annette: well basically in my essay I wrote about all of my things that I own that are Harry Potter that I have gotten as gifts, or that I have bought through the years. So, besides the books I have five or six T-shirts, I have little toys that don't do anything. I had a Harry Potter birthday cake once. I even have a Harry Potter light-switch plate cover. I have all this random Harry Potter stuff. I got all that stuff because I love Harry Potter and people knew that I loved Harry Potter. So, I'm pretty much a fanatic.

Azia: For me, why I'm the biggest Harry Potter fan I think, would be: so that I can read and enjoy the books better I listen and watch a lot of British TV, so in my mind I can get the British accent down pat.

What inspired you to enter?

Annette: I think I was talking to Matt Lewis and he was really encouraging me to enter the contest and I was like 'yeah, I am amazing. So, I might as well…' I remember the night before it was due I was up until 3 a.m., not working on homework but writing the essay for this contest.

Azia: I entered because I wanted to get a free book.

Who is your favorite character?

Azia: Surius Black, Harry's uncle. He's hardcore.

Annette: I usually have a hard time deciding so I usually just say the whole Weasley family because I love Ron so much and his twin brothers and his dad would be a cool guy to hang around - the whole family.

If you could be at Hogwart's for a day, what would you do while you were there?

Azia: I would play on all the staircases that move around - all day - and find hidden rooms.

Annette: I think I would use the Marauder's Map and like go around and go through the secret passages and have so many adventures that I wouldn't know what do to do with myself. Probably take Harry along with me, probably not Hermione, maybe Ron.

If there was an item, person or ability you could bring into your life from Harry's world, who or what would that be?

Annette: No question, I definitely have a couple of house owls running around helping me clean my room and do everything. I would be nice to my house owls. I wouldn't like kick them or yell at them or belittle them, so they would have a pretty good existence. They would just do whatever I want them to, whenever I want them to do it.

Azia: I'd bring the candies, the candies that move around. A few things, the collectable cards of everyone.

What do you think will happen in the next book?

Azia: I think they will go back to school. I know they're gonna back to school.

Annette: You know, one of my favorite Web sites is DumbledoresNotDead.com. And so, I think Dumbledore is going to come back in some formulation, maybe like a spirit or something. I don't know Hermione and Ron will probably hook up, some people are going to die, it's going to be real dramatic.

Hermione Granger

While this has "supposedly" already been corrected on the news blog, I can't help but notice that Ms. Lauren Dillard did not, in fact, spelling Sirius Black's name correctly. (Continued…)
