Despite selling $6 million worth of textbooks each academic year, the OSU Bookstore is a non-profit organization, and strives to provide more used textbooks to students.

"Since we are a nonprofit organization, the sales from our textbooks and merchandise go back to you as a student," Eckrich said. "Students get that 8 percent discount when they buy their books downstairs as a result."

Students can spend upwards of $300 per term on textbooks alone. "Some of my textbooks are used," Fejta said, "But some classes require you to purchase a pack of four or five books, and then you end up using only one or two of them which is kind of frustrating."

Many of OSU's textbooks are sold at some of the lowest prices in the country due to the 8 percent discount.

Students interested in winning $500 for textbooks can visit the OSU Bookstore website and click on the Used Textbook Association link to register.

"It's such an easy way to possibly save a huge amount of money," said Christina Meusch, a sophomore majoring in human development and family science.

"It took all of 50 seconds to enter the contest. It will be well worth the time if I win."

Each student is permitted to fill out one entry. Winners will be announced and contacted by the Used Textbook Association no later than Dec. 31, 2007.
