Official statement from Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity
Regarding noose found hanging from tree on fraternity property
Issue date: 11/12/07 Section: News
For the last ten years, Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity at Oregon State has strived to give back to the community. This includes on our fall philanthropy, "Terror on 25th St.", a haunted house that has been very successful.
As many know we put much effort and detail into our decorations, including a "witch hanging" scene for the front yard. Recently it came to our attention that the noose from this scene had been inadvertently left hanging in the tree. Due to the sizeable clean up after our philanthropy this was one of many things that had yet to be taken down. As soon as this matter had been brought to our attention the decoration was immediately removed.
We acknowledge that fellow Oregon State students have been offended by this, and wish to make it known that this was never our intention. We would also like to thank the individuals who brought this matter to our attention, and will use this as an opportunity to educate our members.
Thank you to everyone who supported the "Terror on 25th St." philanthropy held on October 31st. Once again it proved to be a great success in preventing hunger locally within Linn and Benton counties. Over the last few years the partnership between our Fraternity and the Linn-Benton Food Share has provided food to numerous families in need.
Sincerely,
