Norovirus
Packaged Fruit
I understand the concern about the norovirus and its potential effect on the dining halls and on campus in general. First it was with the bleach kits that came to all of the halls. Then it was the packaging of the salad bar (iceberg lettuce, a tomato and some cucumber - oh yay) and the banning of the salt and pepper shakers. After that was the declaration that tortilla strips would be handed out by the dining staff for the tortilla soup. It seemed as if every day I found a new reason to say "I hate the norovirus." OSU got noro'ed fast, and UHDS has done what it can to stop the spread (no shortage of "Did YOU Wash Your Hands?" posters). Today though, I felt as if we've hit a low. I came in for a plain old banana and walked out with a packaged banana. It was utterly ridiculous. A few hours later I read the article Ms. Strong so graciously wrote for the rest of us about the horrible fruit on the South Side. I don't know about her, but I look before I grab the fruit I want. It's a little thing called courtesy; you do the same thing at the grocery store. Looking before you take what you want, washing your hands, coughing in your sleeve - that whole bit of common sense. Oh, and if the virus really was running rampant, I'm sure more people would be sick on the South Side.

Response to Ms. Walgrave
From a visitor
I am here at OSU attending an Extension meeting and visiting my daughter who is a freshman in wood science and technology. I enjoy reading your paper. After reading today's Letters to the Editor, it appears to me that Ms. Walgrave is asking to be a member of your staff. She obviously doesn't like the way your stories are written. Perhaps she can do better. The way I figure it, you have two choices. 1. You can complain, or 2. You can try to make things better. She took the first choice. Perhaps she should try the second for a change. Keep up the good work.
