Response to Bleachers vs. Desks
Writing what I have been thinking
I just wanted to say that I applaud you for putting into print what I've been thinking since the first day I walked into an OSU campus classroom. I'm a transfer student from Linn-Benton Community College. Although I realize that probably any school including LBCC or OSU has difficulties determining how to spend their budget, I've been to both of these schools and it seems as if they spend their money in almost completely different ways.
I realize that LBCC isn't a university and that they don't have the huge athletic program to worry about, but when I see almost new looking bathrooms with automatic everything, classrooms with new paint, desks and chairs, etc... then go here and wonder where the money is going because it seems like everywhere I go buildings are run down, classrooms are too small and poorly equipped, yet the wrestling/baseball/football teams are getting new facilities, I am saddened by how far off priorities seem to be around here.
I'm not good at conveying my thoughts (thus I don't write for the Barometer), but I just want to send kudos and thanks to Ashley for voicing her opinion on this issue and I think it demands immediate attention from our administration. I don't see any point in paying more and more to get my education here, yet not really seeing many tangible reasons for the increasing costs. This is increasingly frustrating for me as a student and employee of Oregon State University and I'm sure that my thoughts are shared by many of my peers. If there is any action that can be taken on the part of us as students to help bring this to the attention of the administration and create change, I'm down.

Response to Darin Schnoor
"Something to be Proud of?"
In response to Darin Schnoor's "Something to be Proud of?" Schnoor missed the whole point of period power and such celebrations. These events are to cast away the shame and taboos associated with menstruation. By equating menstruation with feces and urine, he encourages the mentality that periods are dirty and shameful and shouldn't be talked about, thus ignoring and suppressing an important experience in a woman's life. His views do not reflect that of an ally.
