One of four display posters, standing about 7 feet tall, disappeared from the LaSells Stewart Center Friday night after the concert for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Concert Band.
"When we came out after the concert was over, there were only three left," said Brad Townsend, the director of athletic bands at OSU.
The display poster, a free-standing structure, is something that could easily be rolled up and tucked under one's arm, Townsend said.
The display is used as promotional material for recruiting, and Townsend noted that band recruiting season begins soon.
The four posters, created as promotional items for the music department, cost $3,600 to create. Townsend estimated that creating a new banner to replace the lost one would cost anywhere from $500 to $800.
"We are hoping it was just a prank," Townsend said. "If you bring it back to 101 Benton Hall, you'll have a lot of happy music people."
Townsend said he can offer free tickets to the next music department concert for any information leading to the recovery of the display.
