The Oregon State women's golf team is currently in ninth place following play during a challenging day at the College of Charleston Invitational on Sunday.
With one of the strongest players out with the flu and following a practice round on Saturday with 15 to 30 mile-per-hour winds, the Oregon State women's golf carded a total score of 33-over-par 321, putting them in ninth place in the 22-team tournament.
"With yesterday's high winds during our practice round, today was our day to get acquainted with the difficult course, so we didn't shoot very well," Head Coach Rise Lakowske said. "Julianna Uhrik being sick with the flu also made it difficult for us to perform as well as we could."
Junior Martha Burkard finished in the top 20 after the first round, putting up a total score of 6-over 78, which put her in a tie for 20th.
Senior Jill Ferrante concluded the first round of action in a tie for 31st with a total of 8-over-par 80.
Freshman Cara Freeman (44-37 81) and Senior Jessi Gebhard (45-37 82) rounded out the scoring for the Beavers.
"We weren't familiar enough with the golf course today which hurt us, but we will play better tomorrow," Lakowske said.
