On Tuesday, March 18, the Corvallis Police Department responded to the 200 block of NW 15th street after a citizen reported finding a bullet hole in his bedroom window and two in his vehicle, according to a CPD media log.
Two current members of the OSU baseball team and one former player were taken into custody in response to the report after an investigation into the incident revealed incriminating evidence in the case.
The three men were charged with unlawful use of a weapon, a Class C felony, and criminal mischief.
The three men in question are Anton T. Maxwell, a 22-year-old former OSU baseball player, John Wallace, a 21-year-old starting outfielder for the Beavers and Jorge Reyes, the 20-year-old Beaver baseball team starting pitcher and 2007 College World Series Most Valuable Player.
"This case is still pending," said John Haroldson, district attorney. "It is important in any case to not be swayed by assumptions or presumptions."
According to the CPD media log, Maxwell, Reyes and Wallace were shooting a .22-caliber rifle at cans in the back yard of a residence adjacent to the victim's residence.
Police found evidence of eight bullets from the rifle that had traveled through the wooden fence surrounding the back yard.
Three of the fired rounds caused damage to the victim's property. One shattered a window of the vehicle and damaged the windshield. A second caused damage to the victim's vehicle door, and a third traveled through the victim's bedroom window.
There were no occupants of the vehicle or the victim's bedroom at the time of the incident and there were no injuries.
"One shot went through my bedroom window, ricocheted off the wall and landed on my bed," said a resident, Brian Bodtker, to the Gazette-Times.
There are seven residents at the victim's home, two of which were occupying the building at the time of the incident, according to Dave Henslee, a CPD lieutenant.
According to OSU's code of conduct, athletes who are arrested, cited or involved with any type of criminal activity are subject to punishment.
