Hughes finalist for Lott trophy

Cornerback Brandon Hughes selected for integrity, maturity

Oregon State University senior cornerback Brandon Hughes has been selected as one of 42 players on the "watch list" for the 2008 Lott Trophy.

The trophy is presented annually by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation and is awarded to the player who exhibits integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity.

Hughes, who originally came to OSU as a receiver prospect but changed positions upon his arrival. He has made 31 starts in the secondary.

He totaled 57 tackles last season, the fifth-highest total on the team. The Pac-10 Second Team honoree from Bloomington, Ill., tied for fifth in the league with 12 pass deflections.

Hughes and the rest of his teammates are currently in the midst of spring practice for the 2008 season that opens Aug. 28 at Stanford in a game nationally televised by ESPN. The annual Spring Game and FeverFest is May 3 at Reser Stadium.

The Lott Trophy recipient will be announced at a gala black-tie banquet at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, Calif., on Dec. 14.
