Beavers to Portland, begin season versus Portland Timbers

The Oregon State men's soccer team opened the 2008 spring season this weekend. The Beavers traveled to Portland on Saturday, April 5, to take on University ot Portland at 10 a.m. and the Portland Timbers at 12:30 p.m.

The Beavers began spring play in preparation for the 2008 fall season.

Oregon State finished last season with an 8-10-2 overall mark and a Pac-10 record of 3-5-2. An improvement ofer the season prior.

Josh Cameron is the leading returning scorer for the Beavers after finishing last season with two goals, seven assists and 11 points.

The Beavers began training for the spring season throughout the winter term as the team held individual workouts and focused on strength training and endurance.

Four Oregon State players had the opportunity to train with professional squads over the course of spring break. Ryan Callahan, Josh Cameron and Daniel Leach traveled to Denver, Colo., to train with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, while Tim Kelly spent his time training with the City Stars of United Soccer Leagues in Cleveland, Ohio.

Following the first weekend of spring play on the road, the Beavers return home for eight more contests. Oregon State opens spring play at home today, April 9, as the Beavers host Concordia College at 5 p.m. before a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Portland Timbers.
