Yuki Lamb earned All-American honors and placed seventh on the vault. This is the third straight year that OSU has had an All-American on the vault with Tasha Smith earning All-America honors in 2006 and 2007 and Mandi Rodriguez earning honors in 2007 also.
All-American Gymnasts
Oregon State gymnasts Yuki Lamb, Jen Kesler and Jami Lanz received All-America certificates Saturday morning at the NCAA Championship Awards Brunch.
Lamb, scored 9.875 on the vault in Thursday's preliminary round of the NCAA Championships to place third in the afternoon session. Lanz, a junior, tallied a score of 9.825 on the balance beam on Thursday to earn second team honors. Kesler, a freshman, stuck the only 9.9 of the meet for the Beavers on the Bars. Kesler's honor marks the third season in a row that OSU has had a freshman earn All-America status (Tasha Smith 2006, Mandi Rodriguez 2007).
Corvallis to Beijing
Oregon State junior Heinrich Barnes added Olympic qualifier to his resume, earning a berth to represent South Africa. After the 2008 Pac-10 Championships, Barnes headed to Tunisia to compete in the FILA-African Senior Continental Championship at 66 kilograms (roughly 145.5 pounds), defeating three opponents to take the title and the automatic berth to Beijing.
Beavers to NFL
Guard Roy Schuening was drafted as the 22nd pick in the fifth round on Sunday by the St. Louis Rams. He was the 157th player taken. Joey LaRocque was drafted as the 36th pick in the seventh round by the Chicago Bears. He was the 243rd player selected.
