Time to have your voice heard
Editorial Board
Issue date: 4/29/08 Section: Forum
Today is an important day for OSU students and Oregon residents alike for multiple reasons.
The day has finally arrived - the last day to affiliate yourself with a political party if you wish to vote in the Oregon presidential primaries.
This information and date has been jammed down your throat since election season has begun, but there is a reason for it. This is important.
As everyone has heard a million times before, and by now is probably tired of hearing it, when the decision is made and you want to complain about it, that is fine if your vote was cast. The same thing can be said about voting in the OSU elections.
If you are in need of voting registration cards, you can pick one up in the ASOSU office or download a PDF from the Benton County website. The registration cards can be returned to the ASOSU office as well.
There is also another a reason today is important. It is the day before the elections for ASOSU and MUPC president and vice president, college senators and senate chairs and members of the Student Incidental Fees Committee.
Last night it was officially announced that Honda/Heim have pulled out of the ASOSU president and vice president election, thus leaving Mann/Nickerson - the candidates who The Daily Barometer endorse - running unopposed.
Even though the MUPC president and vice president candidates are running unopposed, it is still a good idea to look at what they will be doing for OSU during the next fiscal year.
The SIFC members are the people who will be deciding whether or not you will be paying more or less in student fees next year. They will also be deciding where your money will be going, and they even come up with new fees.
It is crucial to do your research on who you want to represent you, as well as the entire student body.
It is crucial to vote. Your voice cannot be heard on this campus and the campus leaders cannot make the changes you wish to see happen unless your voice is heard.
This is the message that should be taken away with all elections, whether it be for president of the United States or president of the student body.
Student can vote on Blackboard at my.oregonstate.edu beginning Wednesday and ending on Thursday night.
Editorials serve as a means for Barometer editors to offer commentary and opinions on issues both global and local, grand in scale or diminutive. The views expressed here are a reflection of the editorial board's majority.
