Milam Auditorium was filled with the collective sounds of Pink Floyd and the Beatles for the third installment of popular benefit concert "The Beatles at OSU" last Friday.

In the first of two concerts, local musicians collaborated to perform rousing renditions of the Beatles' "Revolver" and Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" - with all proceeds donated towards the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARDV), a local non-profit community service organization.

Former OSU graduate student Charlie Parker, who coordinated and participated in the first two performances, originally introduced the concept for "The Beatles at OSU." CARDV Executive Director Nancy Omara opened the event by wishing "special thanks to Charles Parker, who couldn't be with us tonight," extending gratitude to the Women's Center and by remarking on the overall altruism of the Corvallis community.

"CARDV is so honored by the generosity of all the musicians here this evening," Omara said. "It's a belief in social justice, the desire to create something meaningful that really brings these guys together."

Last year's production raised over $8,000 for CARDV and featured full covers of Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side Of The Moon" and the Beatles' "Abbey Road."

"It's the third year they've all done something like this and the music is always fantastic," said Alisha DeVogele, a coordinator at the Women's Center and a senior in public health.

"For five bucks, students can listen to some really rad music and help the community at the same time."

Audience members gave additional money throughout the concert by placing contributions in circulating donation hats. Women's Center volunteers fervently counted the collections as they came in.

Women's Center Coordinator and sociology senior Meagan Williams estimated that the event raised almost $2,000 in attendee contributions and total ticket sales, but she anticipates next weekend's performance to be even more successful.

"The timing of the event is great," Williams said. "The next performance is on Saturday of Mom's Weekend and it's a great, fun thing to bring your mom to… not to mention that it acts as a great alternate activity for people who can't afford to buy expensive tickets for the comedy show."

The talented musicians included OSU music students and members of local bands Break As We Fall and The Badfish Band. The show wrapped up with an energetic rendition of the 1968 Beatles favorite "Back in the U.S.S.R." that was met with screams of approval and a standing ovation.

The next performance will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 in Milam Auditorium. Tickets are $5 per person.
