From all the cheese, milk and butter in the quad Monday you would have thought you'd been transported to Tillamook.

But in actuality it was OSU's Dairy Club out in full force promoting themselves and the consumption of dairy products on campus. For three hours during lunchtime the Dairy Club stood in the MU Quad selling grilled cheese sandwiches and milk for just 50 cents each.

"We're not really doing this as a fundraiser," said Kristin Hogan, Dairy Club President and a sophomore in animal science and general agriculture.

"It's more to promote dairy products and everyone getting their 2-3 servings a day of dairy and also it's just a great way to get our name out there with a fun event for our club members and the students on campus."

The club members working at the booth were kept busy as students lined up for sandwiches and milk in front of the MU. With several grills set up the wait wasn't long as the club members quickly turned out dozens of hot sandwiches.

The Dairy Club's mission statement is to involve students in the dairy industry by providing hands-on experiences and promoting dairy products to students at OSU.

"We have about 30 members, most are agriculture majors, but we really have all different ones too," said Jocelyn Bohnke, Dairy Club treasurer and a junior in health management and policy.

"We did this same event three years ago and it was a hit. It's only a dollar for a sandwich and a milk. We know we aren't going to make money, we are just hoping to break even."

"All our butter and cheese is donated from Tillamook Cheese Factory and we got a discount on the milk from Lochmead Dairy but we had to buy our own bread and supplies," Bohnke said.

Among the Dairy Club's other events and promotions is a dairy cow auction every year and also a milk vending machine in Withycombe Hall.

"I like when clubs do food in the quad," said Lauren Povis, a junior in business administration. "I hadn't heard of the Dairy Club before today, but this is a great way to get your name out on campus. Hungry students, cheap food - you can't beat it."
