Oregon State showed off the Junior Benny mascot today at the Bates Child Development Center. Joanne Sorte, Director of the Center, positions grandson Cadeen Bracken-Sorte for a photograph.

Yesterday Junior Benny, the children's youthful version of Benny the Beaver, was unveiled at the Bate's Child Development Center.

Student-athletes accompanied the unveiling, greeting kids, signing autographs and posing with the cut-out of Junior Benny.

"Even our young fans love Benny, but we think they're going to have a great friendship with Junior Benny. He's a Beaver they can relate to," said Luanne Lawrence, Vice President of University Advancement for OSU in a press release.

"The events that we're holding to introduce him to kids and parents are going to be a lot of fun and we think OSU fans everywhere are sure to embrace him."

The point of Junior Benny is to be a kid-accessible figure that children will look up to and relate to, even more so than Benny Beaver. Junior Benny's debut also includes distributing "baby beanies" to newborns at Corvallis' Good Samaritan Hospital and posters with Junior Benny encouraging reading delivered to schools across the state.
