Think Out Loud hosted a program titled Higher Education last night at Portland State University, starring the presidents of major Oregon universities, including President Ed Ray.

The Oregon Public Broadcasting network filmed the show and plans to air it this morning and tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.

The project was a part of Think Out Loud's discussion of the state of higher education in Oregon. Joined in the discussion were the presidents of University of Oregon, Portland State University, Eastern Oregon University and President Ed Ray of OSU.

The discussion was aimed at the current funding concerns of the universities and what the presidents plan for their agenda for the 2009 legislative session beginning Jan. 13.

The event was open to the public, professors and alumni, who were invited to not only listen to the presented topics, but to also ask their own questions and voice their concerns about the current issues.

Audience members representing each university learned about the event from professors, online or from advertisement within their university.

"I was supposed to get the Oregon Opportunity Grant, but there was not enough funding," said Josh Alcantar, a sophomore in Middle Eastern studies at PSU. After hearing about the event from a teacher he was interested in what the presidents of the various universities had to say.

Think Out Loud led the discussion covering topics from what universities are planning to do regarding budget cuts, investing in higher education, tuition price increases and the student life experience.
