OSU film-makers: Last chance to enter the da Vinci Film Festival
Issue date: 1/9/09 Section: Diversions
Jan. 15 is the final submission date for films to be reviewed and accepted to the 2009 da Vinci Film Fest. The group is looking for more young film-makers to have their films featured at the fest and are excited by the films submitted so far.
The da Vinci Film Fest is in its 10th year of existence and second year as a stand-alone fest. A number of indie films will be showcased: shorts and feature-length; drama, comedy, documentary, animated and experimental.
According to the festival's website, the event launched in 2000 as a part of da Vinci Days. Starting as a screening of animated films, the da Vinci Film Festival has evolved into an established and well-attended annual celebration of independent film.
This year, the fest is running March 6 to 8, 2009 with films showing at the LaSells Stwart Center and downtown at the Darkside Theater.
There are an expected 30 or more juried films to be shown this year, including the ultimate short: the FastFilm Project: a 48 hour flurry of film-making.
Filmmakers have 48 hours to write, shoot, edit, and submit a film to be screened at the da Vinci Film Festival. Filmmakers provide their own equipment and actors.
Films are limited to 10 minutes or less. Films longer than 10 minutes will not be accepted. They will only accept films submitted in a DVD format.
Submit the film on Sunday, Feb. 22 between 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the da Vinci Days office located at 568 SW Third Street, Corvallis.
Each film must have the prop given by the Fast Film Project registrar featured in one scene and a given line of dialogue must be incorporated into script.
The winning team will receive a cash prize of $50. The winning film will be shown at the da Vinci Days Festival in July.
Registration for the FastFilm Project will be Feb. 20.
You can submit films through their Web site at www.davincifilmfest.org. or call Brenda Vandervelder at 757-6363 or Susan Carmichael at 738-1187 for more information.
