The OSU-Cascades campus, located in Bend, is currently experiencing a transitional shift in their faculty's executive branch.
As of mid-December, Rebecca Johnson has temporarily taken on a new role at OSU-Cascades as dean.
Johnson stepped up from her previous position as vice provost for academic affairs and international programs to replace Diana Sloan.
Sloan's reasons for leaving are unclear.
Even before becoming vice provost, Johnson was a professor in OSU's College of Forestry.
Johnson's new title was originally the Interim CEO, which was changed to dean of OSU-Cascades. The original title wasn't common for academia, she said.
"I will return to my vice provost position when they find a permanent dean for OSU-Cascades," Johnson said, "which is expected to take about six months."
In the meantime, Dr. Becky Warner is serving as vice provost in Johnson's absence.
According to Sara Eklund, executive assistant to vice provost, Warner has been at OSU since 1990 as part of the sociology department.
"From 2003 to 2007, (Warner) served as the head of the sociology department," Eklund said, "but she returned to teaching in 2007."
Johnson will now oversee the entire Cascades Campus.
"(The campus) includes almost everything you would find in Corvallis but on a much smaller scale," Johnson said.
OSU-Cascades does a lot in partnership with Central Oregon Community College. For example, the two schools share a library and recreation center.
"But we still need to recruit and enroll students, provide all the student services, teach classes, do research, maintain our facilities and do outreach to the community," Johnson said.
Megan Starkel, an undeclared sophomore, attends the OSU-Cascades campus after studying for a year at the Corvallis campus.
"The Cascades campus has a different feel to it because it is somewhat based on individuals coming back to college that are older, whereas in Corvallis, everyone is mostly first-time students," Starkel said.
