For most Americans of our generation it has been simply unthinkable for one dude (read: heterosexual male) to have an intimate non-sexual relationship with another dude (also read: heterosexual male) that didn't in one way or another happen over the excuse of a female or in the hetero-comfort of a sports bar. Sometimes both of these need to be present in order for any amount of near-male bonding to occur.

This was before Dec. 30, 2008, the date MTV officially acknowledged and therefore legitimized a cultural shift that's new to you and me, but certainly nothing special. Homosocial relationships between men - relationships that are neither sexual nor romantic in nature - have been common for a very long time, though not always openly.

Enough has been collected and/or written about regarding the intimacy shared between two medieval knights or the love-bonds shared between soldiers of the Union and Confederate armies, and lest we forget, the many male members of the United States Navy, to reinforce the idea that, until recently, it was perfectly acceptable to pal around with your bro without the excuse of checking out chicks or grabbing a brew and watching the game.

Enough so that if you've been toying with the idea of "coming out" with your homosociality - if you've had enough with hiding your true affection for your male buds, you can feel comfortable in knowing that you're not alone; lots of your friends are doing it too, and thanks to MTV's new fall series Bromance, you can do so without the fear of being ridiculed.

The Hills star Brody Jenner lends both his adorable face and secure sexuality to MTV's newest reality series in which guys from around the country compete to be Jenner's next BFF. And like every other dating reality show, you can expect to have those pseudo-flirtatious competitions which may or may not end up in sappy moments, sloppy kisses or heartbreak. And of course, all the drama: the third episode already left one contestant, Chris, in tears. There's even serious talk about a hot tub scene between Jenner and his potential best bud.
