Effective March 2, 2009, there will be a new dean of student life at OSU.
After an extensive national search, a search committee has chosen University of Texas alumna Dr. Mamta Accapadi.
Accapadi currently serves as the assistant director of the Multicultural Information Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
The office of the dean of student life, according to their website, promotes the "development of a healthy campus community at OSU through providing leadership for departments and functions that support student's intellectual, ethical and social development and stimulating a dynamic and engaging student life."
Throughout her career, Accapadi has acquired a wide variety of professional and personal experiences that have prepared her for carrying out these goals.
"I feel so thankful for all of the learning opportunities that my past positions have given me," Accapadi said. "I feel that all of my prior professional roles have ultimately prepared me for the position of dean of student life at OSU."
Including her current role as assistant director, some of Accapadi's prior jobs include being an associate dean of students at Schreiner College and an academic advisor at St. Edward's University.
Although the experiences she gained through fulfilling these positions was extremely valuable, Accapadi credits the support and feedback of her family and peers for making her the person that she is today.
"All of my former supervisors, directors and deans have allowed me room to grow and offered me feedback for improvement so that I can be the best me, and I hope to honor their hard work by being 'the best me' at OSU," Accapadi said.
"If it was not for my mother, who at times worked multiple jobs to support our family, or my partner who reminds me of how to take my dreams and convert them to realities, and my daughter, who is a reminder to me of why I even exist, I would certainly not be the person I am. They deserve all the credit."
