As the University of Oregon (8-12, 4-5) women drowned at their own McArthur court, the Oregon State women's basketball team picked up their third conference win of the season and defeated Oregon 61-42.

The Beavers (12-7, 3-6 Pac-10) secured their victory with the help of senior guard Brittney Davis, who led the team with 16 points, senior guard Mercedes Fox-Griffin, who scored 13, senior center Tiffany Ducker, who scored 10, and sophomore center Alex Mitchell, who scored 12.

"I feel like we played 40 good minutes against a very good basketball team," Oregon State head coach LaVonda Wagner said. "We played a good game in a good home environment.

Ducker had the team's first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Oregon State shot better than 43 percent while Oregon struggled to get 42.9 percent and took nine less shots than the Beavers. The Beavers' shooting was better from all angles of the game and rebounding was a big help.

The Beavers game has done nothing but improve this season, and the difference has been rebounding. Oregon State put up 38 boards, 15 of which were offensive and led to 16 second-chance points. The Ducks struggled with only 19 rebounds and five offensively, allowing for only seven second-chance points.

Not only did she have 13 points, Fox-Griffin also had six assists to go with her 13 points, sophomore guard Talisa Rhea had six boards to go along with her eight points - two of which from beyond the arc - and Mitchell had eight rebounds accompanying her 12 points.

The Beavers led the war for nearly the entire game, leading 32-18 at the half and returning to score 29 points in the latter half of the game. Oregon State led by 23 at the 5:12 mark and sank 100 percent of their free throws while Oregon was one for five from the line.

Ellie Manou led Oregon with 12 points in the game.

As Oregon State picked up their 12th win for the season, they also gained more confidence heading into the second half of Pac-10 play. The second time around gives OSU another chance at improving their record.
