Sunday afternoon at Gill Coliseum, Oregon State recorded a win over Pac-10 opponent Arizona State in the closest dual meet of the season for the Beavers, taking the victory at 19-13.

Arizona State (5-6, 3-2 Pac-10) proved that they would not go out without putting up a fight. Taking the lead twice in the first three matches, the Sun Devils were able to pull out a decision in the first match of the day. Oregon State rebounded, as redshirt freshman Kelly Kubec shut out his opponent, 133-pound opponent David Prado, claiming a major decision of 9-0 and putting the Beavers on top in the meet, 4-3.

After trading match wins, Arizona State came up with a major decision of their own, putting them back on top. Picking up the pace, senior Heinrich Barnes was able to put a spark into the Beaver squad. Ranked No. 16, Barnes was able to use his explosiveness to take an 8-2 decision over the Sun Devil's 149-pound wrestler Vicente Varela. Barnes was able to keep his winning streak alive at 11 straight wins.

"Sometimes guys are just going to hang on me and slow my pace down a little bit," Barnes said. "So I try to dictate a pace and throw some of my style down."

Building on the momentum, Barnes was able to create, both Jon Brascetta, a 157-pound sophomore, and Keegan Davis, a 165-pound junior, were able to get back-to-back decisions. Brascetta was able to pick up his third consecutive win and his sixth of the season with a 3-1 decision over Michael Swigart. Following Barnes and Brascetta, Davis shut out his Arizona State opponent, Kyle DeBerry, 4-0. This was Davis' 26th win of the season.

Building their first substantial lead of the day at 13-7, Oregon State fell right back to a tie at 13-13 after losing two very close match ups. No. 11 senior Kyle Bressler lost his first match of the season at his new weight class of 174-pounds to Arizona State's Eric Starks by a score of 4-2.
