The concept for the MU Annex, the planned replacement for the current Snell Hall, was introduced to the Campus Planning Committee, which includes leaders from ASOSU and MUPC, in November 2006. The planned site for the building would be the parking lot of the OSU Bookstore and would most likely connect to the MU through an underground passage, the official Web site of the Snell Replacement Project said.
Opsis Architecture of Portland has been hired by the MU to plan out and oversee the project. The construction of the annex needs the approval of the Campus Planning Committee, which must also be approved by the OSU student body. The funding of the project will require a campus-wide vote and student surveys that are currently being developed.
Students will be encouraged to fill out the survey in order to see the willingness of the OSU community to support a fee increase to fund the MU Annex project.
According the project's Web site, the student survey may come out as soon as May 2009.
The planned building will be constructed to comply with the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Rating System. The design of the MU Annex will incorporate water-saving and energy-efficient technology.
