The Student/Incidental Fees Committee (SIFC) met Friday night for the first meeting of a series to assess the proposed budget for the next fiscal year.

There are 12 student organizations involved with the student fee budgets, and each sends their advisory board or committee to present their proposed budget. Then the SIFC chooses to approve or disapprove their budget plans.

Those representing the SIFC include Chair Amanda Meeker, ASOSU President Ryan Mann, ASOSU Chief of Staff Matt Pennington and Senate Chair Jerred Taylor.

The budget is presented, and then it is open to the committee to discuss and ask questions of the board. Here the committee can address any concerns they may have with the budget plan so that further determinations can be made for its approval.

In this first meeting, the Student Diversity Budgeting Board and the Our Little Village board presented.

The Student Diversity Board explained the necessary costs for the upcoming year, which would total $11.93 as the cost per student per term fee, totaling $640,512.

Also, the board represented Sol, the LGBT People of Color Support Program, which they proposed to be funded by the student fees committee.

Originally, this program was personally funded by the office of Vice Provost Larry Roper, and it was proposed that Sol be funded through student fees to prevent termination of the program through lack of funding.

"Some of those hard choices are going to be coming," Roper said regarding the decision of which programs to keep and which will no longer be able to be funded.

The SIFC approved of the Student Diversity Board Budget and the Sol program.

The Our Little Village board presented their current and future plans for the next year.

The Student Parent Library Center has been successful and the new Langton Center that is in progress will hopefully help the program grow.

The Our Little Village budget was also approved.

The SIFC will continue to hold budget presentations on Wednesday Feb. 18 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in MU 212 and Friday 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in MU 211.

Once SIFC has reviewed and approved of all of the budgets, open hearing will be Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in MU 109.

After hearing the student's opinions on the proposed budget, the SIFC will make their final determination.
