This event is being advertised as a chance to come enjoy a free cup of coffee or tea and to view the fine art prints by the visiting, nationally renowned artist Karen Kunc.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to become familiar with one of the primary contemporary art experiences, being held at Oregon State University.
Student artwork will also be featured in the West Gallery during the open house. Montage, the student fine art club, will be selling their own designs of hand-printed artwork and T-shirts.
Fairbanks Gallery has a long history of presenting professional artists of regional, national and international significance.
The gallery features exhibitions and programs that "advance public understanding of the visual arts, promote innovation and critical thinking, encourage dialog, advocate diversity and provide a cultural resource for serious scholarly endeavors and outreach efforts." Many of the exhibits, lectures and talks from the artists relate to prevalent topical issues - such as the environment, sexual identity, race relations, death and dying, slavery, animal rights and Middle East politics - and have encouraged campus debate and conversation.
The gallery program works in conjunction with the department of art's Visiting Artists and Scholars Program. This program has brought numerous national and international artists to OSU for free public lectures. Many of these artists have spent time with OSU art students giving them workshops, special seminars, mentoring and portfolio reviews.
Now in its fourth year, the program has had the pleasure of hosting artists such as Ursula von Rydingsvard, Philip Pearlstein, Jenny Schmid, Do-Ho Suh, Scott Nash, Midori Yoshimoto, Tala Madani, Gail Swanlund, Bill Viola, Art Werger, GUM and Yoshiko Shimano.
This event is open to the campus and public community. Fairbanks Gallery is located next to the Women's Building and across from the Memorial Union food court.
