Every campus is home to those students who are always at the center of a laughing crowd, the ones who are making jokes just to entertain.

Normally, all that student would get for his or her antics would be evil glares from professors during class, but now, TWIX brand candy bar wants to reward that college student just for being funny through its "Funniest College Student on Campus Contest."

TWIX is asking students to make a video no longer than three minutes that either explains or displays why he or she is the funniest college student in America. This can be done through acting out a sketch, telling a joke or telling a funny story.

The only requirement is that the contestant must be enrolled in some sort of higher education institution, including trade schools and junior colleges.

After the deadline, the videos will be reviewed by a panel of judges who will select four finalists. Those four videos will then be shown on the Internet and be voted on by America. Videos will be judged on humor, creativity and originality.

The grand prize winner will receive $3,000 and a trip to spend a week in Chicago working behind the scenes at TBS' Very Funny Festival: Just for Laughs, in June. The trip will include meeting a senior manager of the festival and job shadowing a worker on the set.

This the first year that TBS is putting on the Very Funny Festival, but it has already attracted some big names in stand-up comedy and will be hosted by comedian Ellen DeGeneres. The idea of the contest didn't particularly pique the interest of many OSU students until they heard what the grand prize was.

"I think it's a good idea," said Cassi Mendiola, a freshman in dietetics and human services.

Other students began thinking about who they know who is funny and what they thought would make a good video.

"Doing tricks on other kids would be funny," said Stosh Sparkman, a freshman in pre-construction engineering management.

The contest is already receiving entries. Videos must be submitted online by 10 a.m. on April 1 at www.funnieststudent.twix.com.

Finalists will be announced on April 10 and the grand prize winner will be announced by May 5.
