It was a senior day to remember for the Oregon State men's basketball team as the Beavers defeated the once-tied for first place California Golden Bears by a final score of 65-54, completing a sweep of the Bay Area teams.

Unlike the Stanford game where the Beavers got a big lead early and held on, the Bears lead by as many as 12 at one point. Behind a vicious rally sparked by Calvin Haynes, the Beavers outscored the Golden Bears by 18 in the second half to complete the sweep.

Haynes drained what could've been one of the biggest 3-pointers of the year for the Beavers; with just over three minutes on the clock and a hand in his face, Haynes knocked down the clutch jumper that put the Beavers up by five. Thirty seconds later, Haynes put the Beavers up by seven after a Seth Tarver steal resulted in a fast break lay-in.

"That's my character. That's just what I am," Haynes said. "I take the tough ones. That energy I bring, that mentality; I want to be the one to take the big shot."

In this one, Haynes took a lot of big shots and once again lead the Beavers with 19 points. He also spearheaded a Beaver bench that scored 47 of the team's 65 points. Up and down, every member of the Beaver roster made a strong statement this weekend as they swept Cal for the first time since the 1994-95 season.

"What we wanted to do was sweep the Bay Area schools. We come out every game like it's our last," Haynes said. "Today we had three seniors and we wanted to win this game more than anything for them. Rickey, Joey and Kyle, they've never swept the Bay Area schools, so it was a great feeling to have them experience something like that."

The victory for the seniors in their final game at Gill seemed a scarce possibility early, as a 14-0 run by the Bears in the first half gave Cal all the momentum and a 28-21 lead going into the locker room. On this day, it was a tale of two halves, as the Beavers turned in a second half performance that blew the Golden Bears right out of the water.
