The women's basketball team takes a short break from conference play to stay in California Tuesday night to face up against UC Santa Barbara.
Oregon State is now 15-10 in the regular season and 6-9 in Pac-10 play.
After two difficult losses to Stanford and Cal last weekend, the Beavers are looking to pick the pace back up before they come home to face the University of Oregon this weekend. UCSB will be the last regular season road game for the Beavers.
Thursday's game didn't fare well as the Beavers fell to No. 4 ranked Stanford 72-43. Senior guard Brittney Davis led the Beavers in scoring with 12 points, including two 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Talisa Rhea also had 10 points in the game as well as one 3-point shot, which marked her 54th for the season.
Last Saturday evening, Davis led Oregon State again with 16 points despite the 62-40 loss to No. 6 California. This marked Davis' 10th game scoring at least 10 points. Sophomore center Alex Mitchell contributed seven rebounds for the Beavers as well. Davis has been averaging 17.2 points per game and has been 43.3 percent from the field.
Rhea, who averages 11.1 points per game, has been overtaken by Davis as the leading scorer for the team. Senior center Tiffany Ducker has been averaging 6.5 rebounds per game and Mitchell trails close behind with 6.2 boards per game.
Santa Barbara is one of the best teams in the Big West conference with a 17-8 record overall and 12-1 record in conference play. The Gauchos leading scorer, Lauren Pedersen, has been averaging 12.4 points per game. Senior center Jenna Green is the leading rebounder for the Gauchos with a 5.7 average per game. Green is also second in scoring with 11.1 points per game. Santa Barbara broke its three game winning streak last weekend after it fell to Cal Poly last Thursday.
Oregon State has not met up with Santa Barbara since the 2004-05 season when the Gauchos won 76-71 in Santa Barbara. Oregon State has not defeated UCSB since December 18, 1993, when the Beavers won 91-63 in Corvallis.
The game is set to take place Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Thunderdome in Santa Barbara. Then the Beavers have a short break before they match up with Oregon for round two of the 2008-09 Civil War series Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Gill Coliseum.
