More than 3,000 students recently completed a survey regarding the proposed new MU and Recreational Sports projects over the last few weeks, and the results have now become available.

According to the survey's results, students reported heavy use and high appreciation for the recreational and union facilities at OSU, but did not show enough support for the proposed building, remodeling and construction plans for the committees to be able to go through with it and increase student fees to get these plans under way.

While the changes won't happen this year, the Student Facilities Improvement Team said that the plans are still on the table, and are looking for ways to refine and improve the MU Expansion plans.

According to survey, students showed large support for the Outdoor Recreation Complex and the renovation of McAlexander Fieldhouse, so the committee will move forward and begin a petition to present the recreational sports projects to students before the May 20 to 21 election.

A concern for the Student Facilities Improvement Team is also the condition of the historic MU building, which they say is in need of care, and the deteriorating status that Snell Hall currently faces.

Snell Hall is not a long-term option for many student organizations that currently reside there, according to the SFIT, so another solution and plan will need to be in place soon.

In order to qualify the plans for recreational sports for the May election ballot, the team must collect 3,000 signatures from fee-paying students. Petitions can be found at Dixon Recreation Center, the MU Quad and other areas on campus beginning March 30.
